Our story

A growing number of people were coming to Living Hope Church in Hatfield, Pretoria from the West of Pretoria and from the Townships North-West of Pretoria (Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve, Mabopane). This included several students from the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) in Ga-Rankuwa. All these areas do not have any English-medium, Bible-teaching churches that we know of, and due to distance, it is often a struggle for many of these people to get to Living Hope for church.

One of the Living Hope pastors, Donovan Drew, moved with his family to Danville, Pretoria West in March 2020 to have more opportunities for evangelism, discipleship, and facilitating fellowship for those in the area. We started a weekly Bible Study on the campus of SMU University and monthly Young Adult meetings at the Drews' home. We began new Gospel Community Groups in Danville (at the Drews' home) and in Ga-Rankuwa (in Jimmy Monama's flat in the Doctor's Quarters at George Mukhari hospital), and helped facilitate transport to Sunday Worship Services and other church events. Momentum continued to grow, and the Living Hope elders decided around August 2021 that the time was right for us to press forward and plant a church in Pretoria West. On Sunday, 27 February 2022, Living Hope sent out 15 adult members to serve as the core of a church plant, Pretoria West Bible Church. We became an independent local church on Sunday, 8 October 2023, once Dumi Ndhlovu and Nhlanhla Nkosi were added as elders / pastors and the church had a plurality of elders providing oversight.
