Church Planting

The Bible presents the local church as central to God’s design for spreading the gospel, maturing disciples of Jesus Christ, and equipping them for the work of ministry. If the Great Commission is to be accomplished, we need healthy local churches all over the world that will fulfil this mission in their region. Lord willing, our church will be a part of seeing many churches planted into the future.

The Greater Pretoria Area

One goal we have as a church is to see “every person in the greater Pretoria area have reasonable access to a Bible-teaching church.” Phase One of pursuing this mission is planting this church in Pretoria West. With time, we hope to help start churches in other parts of the greater Pretoria area where we see a significant need for Bible-teaching churches (for example, the Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve and Mabopane area North West of Pretoria, and the Atteridgeville, Saulsville, Lotus Gardens area West of Pretoria).

Ka-Bungeni village, Limpopo Province

Ka-Bungeni is a Tsonga village not far from Makhado / Louis Trichardt in Limpopo Province. Like many parts of Africa, both the Prosperity Gospel and a syncretism between Christianity and African Traditional Religion are very widespread in the area. Many people will identify themselves as Christian, but few know and believe the biblical gospel. The need for biblical churches is huge! Lord willing, we will partner with Living Hope Church to send out Akani and Lerato Hlungwane to plant a Bible-teaching church in this village in 2024. We also aim to participate in short-term ministry trips to this area at least once a year.

Akani and Lerato have been married since 2013 and are the parents of 3 children. Akani was born and raised in Ka-Bungeni, and he has a lot of family in the area. Xitsonga is his first language, and he is fluent in Tshivenda, the next most common first-language in the area, too. Lerato is also well-accustomed to village life (she grew up in a village North of Rustenburg, North-West Province). She understands Xitsonga and is growing in her fluency.

Akani and Lerato have been part of Living Hope for over a decade. They have served and ministered in a wide variety of ways in the church, and we have seen God very evidently at work in them and through them! Akani is now an elder at Living Hope, while continuing to work full-time as a site engineer at Ford, and he and Lerato also serve as house parents of Atlarela Baby Home (a place of safety for orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable babies). Akani has an MA in Biblical Studies from The Master’s University. We are confident of Akani’s calling to pastoral ministry, and are excited to help support this family in this ministry.
